Blow Up: A Paint-Brushed Display Font for Bold Branding and Creative Design

Testing Blow Up Across Branding Touchpoints

Logo Design: I tried Blow Up for a wordmark logo for the café. It worked surprisingly well—especially when paired with a clean sans serif for the tagline. The contrast between the rough texture of Blow Up and the smooth sans serif created a nice visual balance. It gave the logo a modern, handcrafted look that felt fresh without being too trendy.

Brand Board: On the brand board, Blow Up brought energy to the overall mood. I used it sparingly for headlines and mood descriptors like “Cozy,” “Creative,” and “Local.” It helped anchor the visual direction and added a tactile quality that complemented the color palette and texture swatches.

Packaging Mockup: When applied to a coffee bag mockup, Blow Up gave the design a boutique, artisanal feel. It looked great on a matte label with a warm color scheme. However, I noticed that in some cases, especially with very dark backgrounds or complex textures, the paint-brush details could get lost. It’s best used on clean, light, or neutral backgrounds where the texture can breathe.

Social Media Layout: For Instagram stories and promotional posts, Blow Up was a hit. It added a personal, handmade touch to captions and callouts. It’s especially effective for seasonal campaigns or limited-time offers where a more casual, approachable tone is desired.

Business Cards: At smaller print sizes, Blow Up started to lose some of its clarity. The brush strokes and splatters blended together slightly, making it harder to read. I ended up using it only for the café name in a larger size, while switching to a simpler font for contact details and website.
